SYLLABUS

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

  1. Be at your area/lab area. Do not disturb others.
  2. When instructor is talking, you will listen.
  3. Be on time.
  4. Come prepared: Paper, pencil, notebook, etc.
  5. Clean up after yourself.
  6. If you move it, put it back.
  7. No book bags.
  8. No late work without excused absence.
  9. Trash goes in garbage can.
  10. Destruction of school property, in any way, is not tolerated.

 

SUPPLIES FOR CLASS:

  1. 2 Composition Notebooks
  2. 1 three ring binder
  3. Pencil/Pens (black or blue only) – SHARPIES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
  4. Paper

 

CURRICULUM:

                August – Classification

                August-October: Ecology

                Nov-Dec: Cell Structure and Function

                January-March:  Genetics, Heredity & Evolution

                April:  Human Body Systems

                May:  Mill Creek Research

 

LAB POLICY:

  1. Labs are a privilege, not a right.
  2. Read/ Listen to all lab instructions before you begin.
  3. Classroom animals are not to be harassed.
  4. Classroom animals are not to be touched unless permission is given.
  5. Wash hands after touching animals or animal enclosures—or after any lab.
  6. If you destroy equipment, you will be responsible for it.
  7. No horseplay.

 

GRADING:  Your grading will be determined using performance on labs (tasks & lab reports), homework, daily biology journal entries and unit exams.  Raw points will be given to each assignment and assessed based on student compliance.

OUTDOOR LABS:  We spend large quantities of time experiencing life science “up close and personal”.  Bring spare shoes and an open mind.  You will definitely see things that you have never seen before.
